Chowtime

Posted: April 27, 2015 in Restaurants

Chowtime is a Filipino-Asian Restaurant located at City Time Square, NRA. I got the chance to go there a few months ago with two of my closest friends from work.

We practically no longer work together but we see each other whenever we have the chance. Mina is currently working in Dubai and Lovely is still with my previous employer. So, when Mina visited the country last year, she invited us out.

Our feet brought us here at Chowtime. I honestly didn’t like to try yet another Filipino restaurant but I had two people with me who were not very experimental with foods. I am fine with that for as long as I have never set foot on that same restaurant.

The restaurant didn’t have any diners when we got there. It made me think that maybe, just maybe, it is just your average restaurant. I was hoping I will be surprise with the food. The food had to be good.

The interior. It looks cozy. I am no fan of anything red but its fine with me :-)

There is nothing special inside. The tables and chairs are normal. NOthing exciting. It is very clean though.

Presenting our food…

Bam-I at 190 pesos... My mother's Bam-I is way better. But this one is good compared to other restaurants. This one stands out. It's just that this menu is always present in every family occasion that we have. That explains why I can never find Bam-i exciting.

Nicole had magnum after dinner because its her favorite. I would love to have one too but I was too full and we were planning to go try the coffee shop next door. 🙂

I advise foreigners to try this restaurant if you want to try Filipino foods . I am not very impressed but that doesn’t mean that this is not a good restaurant. It’s just that I’ve been to almost all Filipino restaurant in Mactan. I am not craving for it. I want something different and out of the ordinary.

Its quiet...

They have very good staffs. They attended to us right away. :-)

Pizza Republic

Posted: April 3, 2015 in Restaurants

To conclude the day, Sheryl and I went to Pizza Republic for a snack. She’d been here a few times. And because it was my birthday, I got to choose whatever I like our pizza to be. As expected nothing green and everything was meat and  lots of cheese.

I don't like freedom walls that much. It makes the place look dirty.

1 pizza for both of us is just enough. Look at what we did. I could imagine having a better pizza but you can't blame me, can you? I thought we just have to mix everything... wahahahah

I hate this guy. Whoever he is. We didn't ask him to model for us but he insisted.

I need more practice to make one good pizza. I don’t trust my taste when  I have to do the mixing myself. I was wrong to believe that everything for as long as its meat will turn out perfect. I was dead wrong! We should have opted for more cheese.

We spent less than 200 pesos for 1 pizza. It was all worth it. If this place is near our office? I will return here more than expected. I love it!

You should go check this place. It will be all worth it!

Orange Karenderia

Posted: April 3, 2015 in Restaurants

I was very busy lately so this blog came out late. I don’t care if it took me days to finally write and who cares if I blogged late. NO ONE CARES.

So, let me take you back to what happened last March 17,2015 on my 31st birthday. Sherly and I went to Santo Nino like we always do every year and then to Orange Karenderia, to Temple of Leah and finally to Pizza Republic. All of that in one day. It was enjoyable and almost contemplative.  I can’t remember how many times we mentioned our age in disbelief. I am already 31 and can you remind me exactly where I am? I am still at the same place. Dormant as ever and never going anywhere. How I wish I made the right turn when I was 25. Life would have been stable and easier for me. But I was stubborn and I ignored the signs. I gave up my true family and thought that I will be more useful here. So, I decided to stay. How silly of me to think that one day I will be rewarded of my loyalty. I went on and on with my disappointments. Sheryl kept reminding me that I have done so much with life. Such a sweet friend.

Anyways, back to ORANGE KARENDERIA… I could get lost with my own thoughts that easily. Forgive me. LOL

Sheryl is good at finding even the seemingly inconspicuous places and she found just the perfect place for us to dine at 22nd Lacson Street in Lahug beside the Pizza Republic. It is affordable, clean, and the foods are remarkable.

It offers popular Cebuano foods. They serve Larang too, a dish quite popular among men. So if you want to eat Larang in a place that’s surely clean. Why not try it here?

I’ve read a blog that raved about their Chicharon Bulaklak. So, I made sure that we had it on our table. He was right about it. It was delish. So crispy!

Chicharon Bulaklak @ 135 pesos

Chicharon Bulaklak @ 135 pesos

Calamares @ 160 pesos. This should be enough for 2-3 pax. It tasted like how a calamares should taste like. There was nothing exceptional about it except that it was not served on a normal plate but on a wood. :-)

Sheryl's all time favorite. Sisig @ 105 pesos. Not the best according to her but it was good enough

Garlic Chicken @ 135 pesos. Sheryl insisted that I should have chicken as it is my favorite. I realize I should stick to buttered chicken. LOL. This was good though

I like how simple this place is but it's no ordinary karenderia

Who would notice that this is a good eatery? Unlike many restaurants with all those glass windows and doors. This eatery is so covered...

I had a wonderful experience here. I just hope that waitresses will be more attentive to their customers next time especially when customers are asking for their photos to be taken. LOL. I had to call them a few times before they come to our table and one time I had to get up and go to their counter. I don’t know if thats how it should be. Maybe we have to go to the counter personally ? But this is no ordinary Karenderia, right?

But thats okay, the good food made up for that small unlikable service. I am fine with it 🙂 Happy Birthday to me!!!

This is the best part of having a job like mine. There are a lot of freebies. Eating in restaurants is just one of them. My work is tiresome and I also get suicidal at some point for just staying a year longer. But hey, there are also some things that I have to be thankful for aside from having really kind bosses. I get to go out too and last week we dine at Jumbo Restaurant.

What a torture to pass by this restaurant everyday and not been able to try it yet. I often told myself that I am going to dine here one day and one day came last week. 🙂

Showing you what’s inside 🙂

When we got there I decided to request to dine indoor but I was told that during night time , they often suggest that as much as possible, guests will try outdoor because they have shows. Serenades.

And the most exciting part? All staff will dance every last song after an hour. So, they dance at least 3 times in a night. At 7:00 pm, 8:00 and 9:00 pm. When we we’re there they dance to the beat of Dancing Queen, Ocho-ocho , and Psyche’s Gangnam Style.

And what amazes me was that even the drivers were dancing. Everyone… As in everyone including the guards.

Here’s the food.

They have dinner set menu which is 600 pesos excluding drinks with a minimum of 4 pax.

Here’s what we had for the 600 pesos dinner set menu:

1.) Jumbok Jeok

2.) Shell Soup

3.) Crab Curry

4.) Friend Cream Dory

5.) Tempura

6.) Chilli Prans

7.) Fish Sweet & Sour

8.) Tuna Tataki

9.) Baked Abalone

10.) Baked Scallop

11.) Grilled Squid

12.) Adobo Kang-kong

13.) Yang Chow

Grilled Squid

Tuna Tataki

Yang Chow Rice

Fish Sweet & Sour

Baked Scallop

Adobo Kang-Kong

Chili Prawns

Jumbok Jeok

Fried Cream Dory

Shell Soup

Tempura

Crab Curry

I can’t find the photo of baked abalone. Anyway, it’s served almost exactly as the baked scallop but I liked the baked scallop better. I like anything that that is not an alien to my taste buds. I haven’t tried the tuna tataki because it looks alien to me. LOL

Thumbs up to how they presented the foods. I like how they have all those big and heavy plates.

The taste is expected. What I am trying to say is that the grilled squid tasted like a grilled squid. But you can really tell that the sea foods were cooked fresh.

I just love the presentation. I go crazy over their plates. I must say that the garnishing is something that will make you wanna eat right there and then.

We we’re all smiles:

That’s me and Brigs at their dessert factory.

Ohhh before I forgot. Let me show you inside their dessert factory.

and for that night their specialty is the Buko Pie.

I lab this!!!! It was still hot when served to us. I couldn’t get over how delicious this was.

I had mango shake that night.

Hehehehe 🙂

For reservation you can dial 032-239-6546 or 09177180246

They have free pick up and drop off within Mactan Area.

By the way they also serve lunch set at 300 pesos minimum of 4 pax with the ff. menu:

1.) Lomi

2.) Yaki Tori

3.) Jjasu

4.) Sunomono

5.) Kansasiwo

6.) Fried cream dory

7.) California Roll

8.) Garlic Rice

Not only that they also served Lapu-Lapu SAshimi set that includes tempura, salmon steak, fresh oysters and many more….

I recommend this restaurant and please when you get there please don’t forget to have in your menu the “fried cream dory”. It was the best food I had eaten there so far. They serve the best desserts too. 🙂

Chic-Boy Restaurant

Posted: April 28, 2014 in Restaurants

Before Irene drop me off to the airport on my last day. We dined at Chic-boy which means chicken at baboy.

This fast casual restaurant reminded me so much of the famous Mang Inasal in Cebu.

It was crowded when we got there. Irene told me that the place is always crowded because the foods are really affordable and you know just how much Filipinos love Chicken and pork. They have the best Liempo too, so that explains it!

image

I had this taken when we exited the restaurant. There were a lot of people inside that it was hard to take photos without being noticed. Grrrrr I hate the crowd.

The chicken barbecue is just normal. The good thing is its affordable. We had this at 99 pesos with rice already.

Irene and I

They also have the sulit tipid meals which are like 59-69 pesos. I should have tried it. Irene suggested that but we opt for the available meal but  I needed to catch up for my flight back home. So little time 😦

It was a good experience. I personally think they are better than Mang Inasal because there are a lot of choices.

Next Door Noodles

Posted: April 28, 2014 in Restaurants

there is one thing I regret most after visiting Manila. It’s me not blogging right away. I didn’t blog right away not only because I had no time but also because I was nursing an ailing hypothalamus. That was one of my depressing days. I was like visiting Manila thinking that after that, I will go home refreshed and I will forget a broken heart. I was damn wrong. I became worst. I am better now though. Thank you for the inspiring person who is with me all the way.

Anyway, I went to this restaurant called Next Door in Makati. This is the same company as North Park. I had breakfast here before I went to Ocean Park since the restaurant is located just a few blocks from where I stayed. I have a good memory of this restaurant.

😉

Showing you what we had for breakfast below:

The view outside 🙂

The place is clean. Thumbs up!

My plate :-). Chicken as always

Irene’s

I am so sorry that I cannot be informative on this blog even if I’ll try to. I don’t even have any idea how much we paid for all these.

All I can say is that I love the food. I do think they have one of the best siomai too. One pot is more than enough for one person. I found it hard to eat all that was served. By the way they also deliver.

If you want you could visit the website www.northpark.com.ph

BonChon Chicken, Makati

Posted: April 9, 2014 in Restaurants

I can’t really say much about Bonchon because we just tried their ice cream when we dropped by here while we were at Ayala Triangle.

I decided to make a separate blog on this because the next time I will visit Manila. I will try my best to try what they have. Ice cream is never enough

I didn’t think it was a good idea for Irene to suggest that we try ice cream that night as  it was cold and eating ice cream, though it was my fave, was the last thing on my mind. I just gave it a try and decided that I hate strawberries. It was a bad choice.

It would have been a good restaurant had I tried something more… 🙂
